proAction® is the national quality assurance program for the Canadian dairy sector.

Dairy Farmers of Canada developed proAction® to provide a framework for high standards of farming. The proAction® traceability module includes requirements for dairy farmers to report their traceability data to DairyTrace.

DFC Pride in proAction

proAction® supports protecting animal health, reducing environmental impact and producing the highest quality dairy products.

The Six Modules of proAction®

Milk Quality

Canadian dairy farmers adhere to strict regulated milk quality standards every day in order to produce some of the world’s highest milk quality.

Food Safety

The Food Safety module helps farmers monitor and prevent food safety risks. This module is based on the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points and is recognized by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

Animal Care

Treating animals well and providing them with excellent care is a core value held by the dairy industry. The module is based on the requirements in the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Dairy Cattle.

Livestock Traceability

Traceability is based on three pillars: animal identification, premises identification and animal movement. Tracing dairy cattle and their whereabouts is key to food safety, security and prosperity of the industry.

To improve herd health, farmers work with veterinarians to manage risks and focus on preventing the introduction of disease into, and its spread within, their herds.

The dairy industry strives to improve efficiencies and embrace innovation to reduce its environmental impact and conserve resources. This module builds on existing provincial environmental farm plans and covers nutrient management, soil health, water management, enhancing biodiversity, and reducing waste.
